Kisan Credit Card(KCC)




A Kisan Credit Card is a credit card to provide affordable credit for farmers in India. It was started by the Government of India, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in 1998-99 to help farmers access timely and adequate credit.

The scheme is under implementation in the entire country by the vast institutional credit framework involving Commercial Banks, RRBs and Cooperatives and has received wide acceptability amongst bankers and farmers.

 

Objects/Purpose

To provide timely and adequate credit to farmers to meet their production credit needs (cultivation expenses) besides meeting contingency expenses, and expenses related to ancillary activities through simplified procedure facilitating availment of the loans as and when needed.

  • To meet the short term credit requirements for cultivation of crops
  • Post harvest expenses
  • Produce marketing loan
  • Consumption requirements of farmer household
  • Working capital for maintenance of farm assets and activities allied to agriculture, like dairy animals, inland fishery etc.
  • Investment credit requirement for agriculture and allied activities like pump sets, sprayers, dairy animals etc.

 

Eligibility

  • All Farmers – Individuals / Joint borrowers who are owner cultivators
  • Tenant Farmers, Oral Lessees & Share Croppers
  • SHGs or Joint Liability Groups of Farmers including tenant farmers, share croppers etc.

 

Application Procedure

The interested farmers may apply for KCC through the affiliated PACS (Primary Agricultural Co-Operative Society) of the Bank as per norms.
All scheduled and non-scheduled banks – public, private, foreign, cooperative, regional rural and local area banks – will observe public holiday on second and fourth Saturdays from September 01, 2015; and will observe full working days on Saturdays other than second and fourth Saturdays (referred to as working Saturdays in the Press Release). Consequent to this, the Reserve Bank of India has announced the following changes in its functioning with effect from September 1, 2015.
